Dream Sports Africa is excited to announce the launch of Basketball Experience! A collaborative program funded by the French Development Agency, Expertise France, and the NBA, Basketball Experience (BE) will develop life skills through basketball instruction amoung youth in Lagos over four years. BE plans to reach thousands of students directly across secondary schools with a network of 20 coaches overseeing program activities including classroom visits, sessions, assemblies, and year-end events.
The BE program educates youth on our wellbeing curriculum with lessons on physical wellbeing, mental health, healthy living, and life skills. In addition, we empower youth to build resilience by better understanding their own needs, offering affirmations and breathing exercises that youth can practice in times of stress.
Practicing self-love and compassion
In each school, a selected group of 20-30 students of mixed genders will participate in outdoor sessions that educate on a basketball skill. Our coaches also visit classrooms directly with our same message of wellbeing and demonstrate chair yoga poses and other exercises that can be done in any setting with little equipment.
We owe a big thanks to our Country Director Mike Anejo and our Program Manager John Anejo for setting up our office and braving Lagos' infamous traffic as part of their efforts to meet with school adminstrators and stakeholders to explain the incredible benefits and philosophy of the program. To date, we've signed up 57 schools to participate in the program!
